Great Entertainment for the LGBTQ+ Community

The Blue Caftan is a 2022 Moroccan Arabic-language drama from director Maryam Touzani.  The film won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and stars Luna Azabal who you may remember from the 2010 Denis Villeneuve film “Incendies.”

The film explores the relationship between Mina, and her husband, Hakim, who is struggling with his homosexuality.  The two run a Caftan shop in the Medina of Sale, Morocco.  Unable to keep up with customer demand, they hire a young apprentice, Youssef.  Although Mina has come to accept her husband’s homosexuality, she finds herself jealous at the intimate relationship developing between her husband and his young apprentice.

The Blue Caftan is an unconventional love story focusing on the deep connection between a husband and wife in spite of his homosexuality.  It is a beautiful, quiet, and poignant film definitely worth a watch.  The Blue Caftan is available on Prime.
